Choctaw Mission Applications Available – Volunteers Needed
The annual Choctaw Mission Team dates for 2017 will be June 24th through June 30th. Again this year, Kingston United Methodist Church Mission Team hopes to send several volunteer missionaries with the Choctaw Mission Team to Philadelphia Mississippi to help provide support to the Choctaw Tribe. The mission will primarily focus on Vacation Bible School for upwards of 175 children, youth and adults at Great Spirit United Methodist Church in the Bogue Chitto Community. Daily mission projects will also be included.
For over thirty years the Holston Annual Conference has sent mission teams to help with this annual mission. A brochure and applications as well as other vital information is available in the church office. Please see Delbert Aycock, Beth Kincaid or Rev. Todd Chancey for more information.
THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS MARCH 17, 2017.
Groups Work Together to Provide New Means of Transportation at KUMC
Jerry Helms, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees presented a request to the Finance Committee and Leadership Team sharing a vision for the purchase of a used mini-bus with handicap access. The mini bus is older but in good shape and should have many, many years of service life. Nick Hauck, a KUMC Member and a professional mechanic feels very positive about the addition of the mini-bus. The Mission Committee Co-Chairpersons, Delbert Aycock and Beth Kincaid both are excited about the possibilities of having transportation available on Sundays for older adults who need a ride to church. The Director of Family Ministries, Jennifer Shelton shared how good it would have been to have had a second large capacity vehicle last week end as 31 of the KUMC family attended Resurrection.
Jerry Helms reported that many groups would benefit from this addition and many groups have pledged funds to make the purchase. The Finance Committee and the Leadership Team both approved the proposal. The purchase will NOT impact the church budget as no budget funds will be used, funding has been provided through the special accounts of many groups. Thanks to the following groups who pledged the funds needed: The Clothes Closet, Missions Committee, Builder’s Sunday School Class, Lamplighter’s Sunday School Class, Children’s Ministry, Children’s Choir, and the following memorial gifts were also pledged. Gifts were given in memory of: Jeannie Robinson, Terry Humphries, Martha Rogers and Bob Monroe.
The details are all being worked out and we should have the bus delivered to KUMC in a few weeks. Thanks to everyone who worked together to make this possible.
